Under canopy lighting has grown in awareness over the past year and many growers are curious about it. It is a big part of what we do here at JumpLights and we were one of the first to create purpose-built lighting for the under canopy environment.

We asked our customers why they like using under canopy lighting. Here are the top five reasons that we heard in their responses.
1. Higher Quality Buds Lower in the Canopy: In many cases, under canopy lighting turns C buds into B buds and B buds into A buds. Under canopy lights like the Catalyst get more light to the bottom of the canopy, which helps with bud growth and quality. Our customers have seen improvements in bud quality, which has allowed them to produce more high quality flower, resulting in higher sales prices and profits.
2. Gets You Higher Yields: In addition to higher quality, growers will also likely see higher yields after implementing under canopy lighting. A meta-analysis of JumpLights’ customers who have tested or fully implemented under canopy lighting shows between 20% and 60% yield increases for most customers. The increase that a specific grow will see depends on the cultivar being grown, the environmentals, and other factors unique to your facility. In strong markets, the increase in quality yield can pay for the lights in just one cycle.

3. Makes Good Use of Existing Space: Many growers believe the only way they can get higher yields is to expand their facility or open a new facility. Building new rooms and buildings is difficult, costly, and time-consuming. With under canopy lighting, you can get more from the space and power that you already have, meaning you can get higher yields and quality much faster. This allows you take advantage of a hot market with high price per pound without building out a new building or room.
4. Easy to Implement: Under canopy lights aren’t hard to install in your grow. With JumpLights Catalyst, you can hang the lights from trellis bars or racks, putting them in a stationary position above the bottom of the growing environment. You can also use stands or feet if that works better for your situation.
5. Can be Eligible for Rebates and Financing: In many jurisdictions, under canopy lighting is eligible for rebates, just like over canopy lighting. Many cultivators don’t think of this before they buy under canopy lights – make sure to check what’s available in your area or ask JumpLights for help in doing so.
